NAME OF CHARACTER: White Duelist Utena
ANIME SERIES: Revolutionary Girl Utena
COSTUME STATUS: 50% made by Claudine
Roselle Puente
COSTUME DEBUT: Fanime Con 2002
DETAILS: Personally, I'm not an Utena fan.
Again, this is a costume for a So Desu Ne Cosplay skit... and guess who
was cast as Utena? :p At first I was reluctant because I don't look
like the type of person who would cosplay as her, and I was afraid of negative
feedback. You know, someone saying, "oh, she's a horrible
Utena" or "how can SHE cosplay as her; she looks nothing like
her". In the end, according to my knowledge, it turned out well.
I haven't had anyone criticize me about cosplaying as Utena... yet.
So, why did I choose White Duelist Utena? Because I've seen too
many cosplayers wearing the usual navy blue Ohtori Uniform. I guess
it's all about originality... unless you wanna count the fact that I was
inspired by Love Meeko's White Duelist Utena costume. If you want my
honest opinion, hers is much better than mine.
Okay, the costume was 50% made by me. I didn't really have enough time
to finish the costume since I was at Anime Central the week before, not to
mention that school and work were pretty much in the way. :( Okay, the
jacket was entirely made by me, and if you really wanna know the truth, I
think it was poorly made, which is why I refuse to wear it again.
Remember when I said that I didn't have enough time to make the
costume? Well, for starters, the skirt was an old tennis skirt that I
owned. I borrowed the epaulets, the red leggings, the medals, and the
white platform boots from Ashley. I swear, she was a life saver for me
that weekend. It's just too bad that I couldn't make the costume
entirely on my own. :( Well, you know the old saying, "never say
never". There's always time to fix costumes. :)
